One Year Later

Bethesda’s Ambassadors and NASCAR Legend Michael Waltrip Catch-up Over Zoom

Last March as part of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, Bethesda partnered with Motor Racing Outreach to send several people we support to the NASCAR Auto Club 400 race in Fontana, Calif. And, as ambassadors of Bethesda’s mission, they were treated to the experience of a lifetime as VIP guests, including taking a ride in the pace car with NASCAR legend and Fox Sports commentator, Michael Waltrip.

Recently, Mr. Waltrip and three of our ambassadors – Jordan, Carl and Chris – caught up with the NASCAR legend over a Zoom call. Everyone was all smiles as they reminisced about that unforgettable Sunday afternoon and talked about the importance of disability awareness.

A look back at the Auto Club 400

Last year, just before the world stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic, five people Bethesda supports had the time of their lives when they attended the NASCAR Auto Club 400 race in Southern California on March 1 as Bethesda’s VIP “ambassadors” for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

Through the efforts of Motor Racing Outreach President Billy Mauldin, NASCAR and the Auto Club Speedway opened its arms to Bethesda, providing VIP access and the opportunity to promote Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month to the 80,000+ fans in attendance and to journalists covering the event.
