Information Collected on the Bethesda Community Site

We collect personal information when you register with the Bethesda Community, when you use Bethesda Community services, and when you visit Bethesda Community pages including the Advocacy Action Center page hosted by CapWiz. When you register we ask for information such as your name, email address, birth date, address and preferences information.  When you register and sign in, you are not anonymous to us. Bethesda collects information about your activities on the Bethesda Community pages. Bethesda uses information for the following general purposes: to customize content you see, to fulfill your requests for services, to improve our services, and to conduct research on improving the Bethesda Community.  We limit access to personal information about you to employees who we believe reasonably need to come into contact with that information. Cookies

When you use the online shopping cart in our Staff Development and Special Religious Education catalogs our site stores a temporary cookie in your browser’s memory. The cookie acts as an ID tag to let our server know who you are so it can manage and remember your information (i.e. the items you have put into your shopping cart) while you shop.

The cookie simply tells our site where to locate your temporary information on the server. No one can examine the cookie in your browser’s memory to find your personal information. When you exit your browser, the cookie is automatically expired and your information can no longer be accessed.

If you are using a public computer and are concerned about the privacy of your information after you are done shopping, make sure to exit the browser when you are finished. This will insure that your information will not be available to the next person to use the computer.

Bethesda Lutheran Communities Respects Donor Privacy

Bethesda Lutheran Communities is committed to respecting the privacy of its financial and in-kind donors, whether the donation is made online, by mail, or any other method. When you make a financial or in-kind donation, you provide your name and contact information. Financial donors provide standard payment information including, in many circumstances, credit card data. We protect your information in a variety of ways, as described below.

We use industry standard safeguards to protect your information. When you order items or make a donation from our site using a credit card, your credit card number is accepted and processed by VeriSign and through Blackbaud Merchant Services. All transactions between customers occur over connections that use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software, which encrypts the information submitted. We do not reveal credit card numbers when confirming orders on our site or through e-mail. These measures make it extremely difficult for anyone to intercept the credit card information you send to us. When we work with other companies to process credit card transactions, those companies also use encryption and other security measures.

We will not sell, share or trade our donors’ personal information with any other entity. This applies to both online and offline donor information. In addition, we will not send mailings to our donors on behalf of other organizations, unless a donor has given us specific permission to do so.

Bethesda Lutheran Communities has vendors that occasionally assist with processing and managing donations and donor data. When necessary to accomplish a specific business purpose, we give these vendors access to relevant donor data.  Such vendors are bound to keep any accessed or shared data strictly confidential. They are prohibited from selling, sharing or trading any donor data with anyone.

Information You Submit

When you place an order, make a donation, register for a workshop, request information or submit a resume on our site, we do not sell or disclose your personal information to third parties. We do not add your email address to any of our email lists unless you specifically request that we do so.

Email Lists

Email addresses collected from subscriptions to Bethesda email services are not sold or disclosed to any third parties.

The email addresses collected for Bethesda email services are only used by Bethesda to send out the subscribed email service.

As a subscriber to a Bethesda email service you will not receive any emails you did not request.  You can unsubscribe from any Bethesda email service at any time by clicking the User email Preferences link at the bottom of every Bethesda email.

Children’s Privacy

Currently, we do not collect any personal information about visitors to the youth section of our site.

Revisions

As we add new content and functionality to our site, our privacy policy will be revised to include details about the use of any new information being collected. Any revisions to our policy will not reduce the amount of protection offered to visitor information collected in the past.  Please review our policy frequently to ensure that you have the most current information.
